1. Chiefly with possessive, esp. in on (also upon) the say-so of, on (also upon) one's say-so.
a. An assertion, assurance, or instruction unsupported by any authority other than the speaker's own; a person's word, and nothing more than that.In 19th cent., chiefly U.S. and English regional (midlands).
