Etymology: < post-classical Latin satellitium (also satellicium) bodyguard, retinue, protection (4th cent.) < classical Latin satellit- , satelles satelles n. + -ium , suffix forming nouns (compare -y suffix4).
1. A body of guards or sentinels. Obsolete.
