Origin: Probably formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: save v., -ation suffix.
Etymology: Probably irregularly < save v. + -ation suffix, perhaps as an alteration of salvation n.
Chiefly English regional (north-western and midlands). Now rare.
The action of saving money, time, etc.; a saving.
