Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin scītāmenta.
Etymology: < classical Latin scītāmenta (neuter plural) delicacies, titbits, refinements of speech, stylistic elegancies < scītus elegant, dainty, use as adjective of past participle of scīscere to get to know (see sciscitation n.) + -mentum -ment suffix.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
A pleasant dish, a delicacy; (figurative) an example of pleasant or witty conversation, a verbal embellishment.
