单词 schnook
释义

schnookn.

Brit. /ʃnʊk/, U.S. /ʃnʊk/
Forms: 1900s– schnook, 1900s– schnuck, 1900s– shnook.
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Perhaps formed within English, by clipping or shortening. Etymons: schmuck n.; schnookle n.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Although a borrowing from Yiddish has been suggested, no formally similar word appears to be attested in that language in the relevant senses. Perhaps a variant of schmuck n., or perhaps shortened < schnookle n.Perhaps compare Yiddish shnuk snout (the relationship of which to its synonym shnoyts < German Schnauze snout n.1 is unclear). There appears to be no evidence supporting a borrowing < German Schnucke small sheep (17th cent., chiefly in the compound Heidschnucke, denoting such a sheep from the Lüneburger Heide in northern Germany; immediately < a regional (Low German) word with the same sense, ultimately of imitative origin).
colloquial (originally U.S. and in Jewish usage).
A foolish or naive person, a sucker, a dupe.
