Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; probably modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: bird's eye adj., view n.
Etymology: < bird's eye adj. + view n., probably after French vue d'oiseau (early 18th cent. or earlier, frequently in plan à vue d'oiseau; now largely superseded by similar use of à vol d'oiseau).
1. A general view of something from above, (in early use) esp. a panoramic view of a landscape from a high vantage point. Also: a representation of something from this perspective. Cf bird's eye adj. 2.
