Etymology: < the name of Arthur Schoenflies (1853–1928), German mathematician, who listed the 230 space groups in 1891 in his work Krystallsysteme u. Krystallstructur.

attributive, in the genitive, and with of, esp. in Schoenflies notation, Schoenflies symbol. Designating a system of notation devised by Schoenflies for describing point groups (point group n. 2). Also: designating symbols used in this system.With some modification, Schoenflies notation can also be used to describe space groups.
