Etymology: Latin, < Greek σκάζων, noun use of present participle of σκάζειν to limp, halt.
Prosody.
A modification of the iambic trimeter, in which a spondee or trochee takes the place of the final iambus; = choliamb n. Also scazon iambic. The name was also applied by some ancient metrists to a similar modification of the trochaic tetrameter catalectic, and to various other metres which are variations of some common type of verse produced by a change in the last foot.
