Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: French scénographique; Greek σκηνογραϕικός.
Etymology: < (i) French scénographique, adjective (1651 in the passage translated in quot. 1729 at scenographical adj. 1), or its ultimate etymon (ii) Hellenistic Greek σκηνογραϕικός, adjective < σκηνογράϕος scenograph n. + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare post-classical Latin scenographicus (1517 or earlier), and also Italian scenografico , adjective and noun (1773 or earlier), both with reference to drawing with perspective. Compare earlier scenography n. and slightly earlier scenographical adj.With the form schenographic compare schene at scene n. Forms.
