Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element; modelled on an Italian lexical item. Etymons: proper name Scio , -ote suffix.
Etymology: < Scio (now Chio ), Italian form of the name of the Greek island of Chios (see Scio n.2) + -ote suffix, probably after Italian Sciotto, †Scioto, †Sioto (16th cent. or earlier).
Now rare.
