Etymology: < Old French escoinson, also written escochon , escouchon (modern French écoinson ), apparently < es- ex- prefix1 + coin angle. Compare the later form scoinson n.
Architecture.
a. The bevelled inner edge of the side or jamb of a window, door, etc. In the earlier quots. the sense is uncertain. Godefroy gives for escoinson a sense ‘piece of stone or wood projecting inside a building, to support a beam, etc.’
