单词 scurrier
释义

scurriern.1

Forms: α. Middle English scurrour, 1500s scurrer, skurrer, skyrrer; β. 1500s scurreour, scurriour, scurrior, scurryer, scurier, 1500s–1600s scurrier.
Etymology: Apparently aphetic < Old French descouvreor discoverer n.; compare the Scots forms discurrour , discuriour (14–16th cent.), and the 14th cent. scourer n.1 The coincidence of sense with currour , courier n. 4, has probably influenced the form. The Italian scorridore (agent-noun < scorrere to run out: compare excur v.) has the same meaning, but there is no equivalent Old French *escoureor.
Obsolete.
One sent out to reconnoitre; a scout, avant-courier.
