Origin: Formed within English, by clipping or shortening. Etymon: selenium n.
Etymology: Symbolic abbreviation for selenium n.; attested from1818 in a French context (J. J. Berzelius 1818, in Annales de Chimie et de Physique 9 236).
Chemistry.

Etymology: < Chinese .
Chinese Music.
A twenty-five-stringed plucked musical instrument, somewhat similar to the zither. This ancient instrument was already widely used during the Spring and Warring States period (770–476 b.c.). The number of strings was not fixed in ancient times. In quot. 1955, wrongly described as a lute.
