second-wave feminism n. (within the women's liberation or feminist movement) a period of activity during the 1960s–80s characterized by an emphasis on unity and solidarity among women, by advocacy of social and economic equality (esp. equal pay) between the sexes, and by campaigns for wider access to birth control and abortion and for increased recognition and prosecution of sexual and domestic violence; the movement associated with this period of activity.
