释义

Securitaten.

Brit. /sᵻkjʊərᵻˈtɑːteɪ/, /sᵻkjɔːrᵻˈtɑːteɪ/, U.S. /səˌkjʊrəˈtɑˌteɪ/
Forms: 1900s– Securitate, 1900s– Securitatea.
Origin: A borrowing from Romanian. Etymon: Romanian Securitate.
Etymology: < Romanian Securitate, literally ‘security’ ( < classical Latin sēcūritāt- , sēcūritās security n.), short for Direcţia Generală a Securităţii Poporului, literally ‘General Directorate for the Security of the People’ (1948; later Direcţia Generală a Securităţii Statului, literally ‘General Directorate for the Security of the State’ (1951), Departamentul Securităţii Statului, literally ‘Department for the Security of the State’ (1967)). Compare Romanian Siguranţă, literally ‘security’, also used earlier as the name of the predecessor of the Securitate (short for Direcţia Generală a Poliţiei de Siguranţă, literally ‘General Directorate for Security Police’).The form Securitatea reflects Romanian Securitatea, a definite form (with suffixed definite article).
Now historical.
