A heptose that is found in the leaves of certain plants of the genus Sedum (notably S. spectabile), a phosphate of which is involved as an intermediate in carbohydrate metabolism in animals. Formerly called † sedoheptose n. Obsolete ΚΠ 1917 La Forge & Hudson in Jrnl. Biol. Chem. 30 68 Since the analyses of the three crystalline derivatives that have been described show conclusively that the sugar of Sedum spectabile contains seven carbon atoms, it will be named, with reference to its origin, sedoheptose. 1938 Thorpe's Dict.
