Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French sérifique.
Etymology: < French sérifique ( L. Dufour Recherches anatomiques et physiologiques sur les orthoptères, les hyménoptères et les névroptères (1841) 308; chiefly in glande sérifique ) < seri- (in classical Latin sēricum silk: see Seric adj.; compare also French sériculture sericulture n.) + French -fique -fic suffix.
Zoology. rare.
Of a gland in an insect or spider: producing silk.In quot. 1895 probably: = colleterial adj.
