Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin Sērēs , -iform comb. form.
Etymology: < ser- (in classical Latin Sērēs Seres n.) + -iform comb. form.Apparently coined by R. G. Latham (see quot. 1850).
Obsolete.
Of, relating to, or designating a group of eastern and southern Asian peoples including the Chinese, Thais, Burmese, Cambodians, etc. Also applied to the languages spoken by these peoples. Cf. Seres n., Seric adj.Apparently disused by the late 19th cent.
