Etymology: < seen, past participle of see v., after Middle French vu (conjunction) considering that, (preposition) in view of (14th cent.) < vu , past participle of voir to see (see view n.). Compare slightly earlier seeing conj.Compare sen conj. and sene adv. and conj., northern Middle English and Older Scots variants of sithen conj., which apparently show variation between short and long vowel, and are therefore partly identical with this word in form and sense (compare especially sen conj. 2). Quot. c1515 at sense A. could alternatively be interpreted as showing sen conj. (compare quot. c1515 at sen conj. 2).

Nigerian English, Caribbean, and in British Afro-Caribbean usage.
Expressing approval, assent or understanding. Also used interrogatively at the end of a statement, to prompt agreement, approval, or confirmation: ‘okay?’, ‘understand?’Often associated particularly with Rastafarian usage.
