Forms: α. Old English singréne, Middle English, 1500s sin-, (Middle English sine-), Middle English–1500s sen-, (1500s sene-), syngrene, (Middle English sygryme, 1500s singren), 1500s–1600s sengreene, (1600s seangreen, semgreen, syngreen), 1600s– sengreen. β.
