Etymology: < septum n. + -cidal comb. form, after French septicide (1808). N.E.D. (1912) gives the pronunciation as (se·ptisəidăl) /ˈsɛptɪsaɪdəl/.
Botany.
Designating a type of dehiscence in which a fruit dehisces (splits) along the septa between the carpels. Also (of a fruit, spec. a capsule): that dehisces in this manner.
