Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Septimontiālis.

Etymology: < classical Latin Septimontiālis of or connected with the feast of the Septimontium < Septimontium area bounded by the three spurs of the Palatine, the three spurs of the Esquiline, and perhaps the Mons Caelius, festival held in this place on 11 December ( < septi- septi- comb. form¹ + mont- , mōns mount n.¹ + -ium : see -y suffix⁴) + -ālis -al suffix¹; there is apparently no reference to the famous seven hills of Rome, as Varro implies.Compare Middle French, French septimontial (1583 or earlier).

Belonging or relating to the annual Roman festival of the Septimontium, celebrated on 11 December.

1976 Amer. Jrnl. Archaeol. 80 51/2 The very late antiquarian John the Lydian..seems to have referred to some kind of Septimontial procession over all the hills.
