Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin septuāgēnārius.
Etymology: < classical Latin septuāgēnārius containing seventy each, seventy years old < septuāgēnī , distributive of septuāgintā (see Septuagint n.) + -ārius -ary suffix1. Compare septuagenarian adj. and (with use as noun) earlier septuagenarian n.Compare Middle French, French septuagénaire (adjective) seventy years old (14th cent.), (noun) person who is between seventy and seventy-nine years old (1791 in the passage translated in quot. 1792 at sense B.), Italian settuagenario (1611 in Florio as adjective and noun).
