Etymology: < post-classical Latin septuncialis that weighs seven ounces (1514) < classical Latin septem seven (see septem- comb. form) + uncia ounce n.¹ + -ālis -al suffix¹.Compare classical Latin septunx seven twelfths of anything, seven ounces. Blount (see quot. 1656) is probably following 16th-cent. dictionaries that record classical Latin septunciālis (or septimunciālis ) in Columella (2. 10. 8), reflecting 16th-cent. editions of this work. Modern editions of Columella read septimontiālis in this passage (see septimontial adj.).

Obsolete. rare.
