单词 sexagenal
释义

sexagenaladj.

Brit. /sɛkˈsadʒᵻnl/, /sɛkˈsadʒn̩l/, U.S. /sɛkˈsædʒən(ə)l/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin sexāgēnī , -al suffix1.
Etymology: < classical Latin sexāgēnī sixty each (see sexagenary adj.) + -al suffix1. In both quotations, sexagenal cycle renders a Japanese word for the sexagenary cycle, probably either eto , or jikkanjūnishi , or kanshi (the latter is attested earliest as shikan (1092), apparently a borrowing using the same characters as Chinese gānzhī : see sexagenary cycle n. at sexagenary adj. and n. Compounds). Compare earlier sexagenary adj.
