Origin: A borrowing from Urdu. Etymon: Urdu šarāra.
Etymology: < Urdu šarāra (in ġarāra šarāra , reduplication (with variation of the initial consonant) of ġarāra gharara n., perhaps after šarāra spark).
A pair of loose pleated trousers worn by women from South Asia, typically with a kameez and dupatta. Also (and in earliest use) attributive. Cf. gharara n.Sometimes also applied more broadly to an outfit consisting of such trousers, a kameez, and a dupatta.
