Origin: Apparently a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: Italian buona; Spanish buena.
Etymology: Apparently an alteration (in Polari slang: see Polari n.) of either Italian buona (feminine of buono good (12th cent.)), or Spanish buena (feminine of bueno good (12th cent.)), probably also influenced by bona-roba n., bona fide adj. Compare also bone adj.The ulterior etymon of both the Italian and the Spanish adjective is classical Latin bonus good (see bonus n.).
