Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin accumbere.
Etymology: < classical Latin accumbere to lie down at table, to recline < ac- ac- prefix + -cumbere to stoop, lie down (only attested in compounds: see cumbent adj.). Compare earlier accumbing n., accumbent n.
Obsolete. rare.
intransitive. To recline, esp. at a table when dining.
