释义

accursev.

Brit. /əˈkəːs/, U.S. /əˈkərs/
Forms: late Old English acursian, Middle English accorse, Middle English acorci (south-western), Middle English acorse, Middle English acorsi (south-western), Middle English acorsy (south-western), Middle English acourse, Middle English acursi (south-west midlands), Middle English acursse, Middle English acursy, Middle English akurse, Middle English–1500s acurse, Middle English– accurse, 1500s accursse; also Scottish pre-1700 accurs, pre-1700 acurs.
Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or (ii) a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: a- prefix1, curse v.; English *oncursian.
Etymology: Either < a- prefix1 + curse v., or < an unattested Old English *oncursian ( < on- prefix + curse v.: see note), with reduction of the prefix (compare a- prefix3). On forms beginning with acc- see discussion at ac- prefix.Although Old English *oncursian is not attested, its existence is perhaps implied by the form oncursie in the following early Middle English copy of an Old English document (originally written a1046):a1300 ( Indulgence of Bp. Lifing, Crediton, Devon in Britannica: M. Förster zum Sechzigsten Geburtstage (1929) 118 Ich hit itrimde mid on hondreit daȝes of bute ende, and ich on-cursie þat hit oþerwise isette.
Now somewhat archaic.
