Etymology: < Simon Pure ( < the male forename Simon (see Simon n.) + pure adj.), the name of a Quaker character in Susanna Centlivre's comedy A Bold Stroke for a Wife (1717).Sense A. 2 arises from the fact that Simon Pure is impersonated by another character during part of the play. In use as adjective after pure adj.
