Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin significator.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin significator that which indicates (4th cent.), ruling planet of a horoscope (1549 or earlier) < classical Latin significāt- , past participial stem of significāre signify v. + -or -or suffix. Compare Middle French signifficateur , significateur (French significateur ) ruling planet of a horoscope (a1498), and also Spanish significador (second half of the 13th cent., originally in sense 2a), Italian significatore (a1334 in senses 1 and 2a). Compare earlier signifiant n.2, signifier n.
