单词 signorize
释义

signorizev.

Forms:

α. 1500s–1600s signiorize.

β. 1500s–1600s signorise, 1500s–1600s signorize.

Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: signor n., -ize suffix.
Etymology: < signor n. + -ize suffix, perhaps after Middle French seigneuriser, seignoriser, seignorisier, etc. (c1300 in Old French in sense ‘to govern, rule (a place, people, etc.)’, c1330 in sense ‘to rule, reign’, used intransitively; French seigneuriser ). Compare Old Occitan senhoreiar , senhorejar , etc. (12th cent.), Italian signoreggiare (late 13th cent. in senses 1a and 2). Compare earlier signor v. and the Romance verbs cited at that entry, and later seignorize v.
Obsolete.
