Etymology: Old English blǽge (weak feminine) is cognate with German blei(h)e , Middle Dutch bleie , modern Dutch blei < Germanic *blaijôn . Franck thinks it may be derived from the same root as German blei lead, and Old English bléo , blee n., complexion.
