Etymology: < sky n.1 + train n.2
1. U.S. A convoy consisting of two or more gliders towed in line by an aeroplane, used for the transport of freight, personnel, etc., esp. during the Second World War (1939–45). Also (with capital initial): a type of aeroplane used to tow such a convoy. Now historical.
