单词 | slow-hound |
释义 | † slow-houndn. Obsolete (archaic or historical in later use). A bloodhound or similar dog (identified as a distinct type) used for its ability to track game or fugitives by scent; = sleuth-hound n. 1.Frequently taken to mean ‘running slowly’ (hence the contrast with ‘swift’ or ‘fleet’ hounds in quots. 1653, 1885). The later quoted sources appear to allude to the historical use; most other instances of the term slow hound from the 19th cent. onwards refer simply to slow-paced hunting dogs.
