Origin: Perhaps an imitative or expressive formation. Perhaps formed within English, by blending. Etymons: snarf v., snaffle v.3, snuffle v.
Etymology: Perhaps imitative, or perhaps a blend of snarf v. and either snaffle v.3 or snuffle v.
slang (chiefly U.S.).
1. intransitive. To sniff or snort; to make any of various snuffling and slobbering noises like those of an animal eating greedily. Hence: to eat greedily (also figurative).
