He also introduced the form sokah, with respelling of the second element with allusion to ka, the name of the first consonant in Devanagari script, chosen to evoke the East Indian input into the style.
A calypso-based style of dance music originating in Trinidad in the 1970s which is influenced by East Indian rhythms and Latin and Caribbean regional styles of music and incorporates elements of funk and ska.Compared to traditional calypso, soca tends to have a faster tempo and lyrics which are less focused on social or political commentary.
