1910 F. W. Hodge Handbk. Amer. Indians II. 606/2 Snohomish. A Salish tribe formerly on the s. end of Whidbey id., Puget sd., and on the mainland opposite at the mouth of Snohomish r., Wash. Pop. 350 in 1850. The remnant is now on Tulalip res., Wash., mixed with other broken tribes.
1940 M. W. Smith Puyallup-Nisqually 17 In the Puyallup–Nisqually dialect the word means butte or rump but informants thought it might mean something else in the dialects of either the Twana or Snohomish.
1966 Internat. Jrnl. Amer. Linguistics 32 350/2 Snowhomish..was spoken in the region around Port Gardner Bay..and along the Snowhomish River.
