Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from French, combined with an English element. Etymons: French blousée ; blouse n., French -ée.
Etymology: Either (i) < French blousée, feminine of blousé cut full in the body, in the manner of a blouse, use as adjective of the past participle of blouser (although this is first attested later: 1935) < blouse blouse n.; or (ii) formed independently in English < blouse n. + French -ée, feminine past participle ending.
Obsolete.
Designating the style or look of a garment which is cut full in the body in the manner of a blouse (cf. blouse n. 3a). Chiefly (and in earliest use) in blousée bodice n. a bodice (bodice n. 2) for a woman's dress, cut full in the body so as to puff out, or to hang or drape loosely.
