Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek ἀκτῖν- , ἀκτίς , -ize suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek ἀκτῖν-, ἀκτίς ray (see actino- comb. form) + -ize suffix.
Now rare.
transitive. To chemically change (esp. a photographic film or plate) by means of exposure to light. Cf. actinic adj. 1, actinism n. 1.
