1. To render lengthy or protracted; to protract, prolong.Used with a variety of objects, the commonest types of which are illustrated by the separate groups of quotations. Cooper (1565, at Parcæ) has ‘to spynne out the threade of mans lyfe’, and an early example of the literal use occurs in quot. 1393 at spinner n. 2a.
