combining form of Latin spīna spine, thorn (cf. spino-comb. form), used in various scientific terms, as spini-acute, spini-dentate, spini-tuberculate adjs. Mayne Expos. Lex. (1859) employs spinicerebral, spini-folious, spinipede to translate corresponding Latin formations; recent dictionaries give a number of other combinations, as spinicerebrate, spinideltoid, spinispirular, spinispirulate, esp. anatomical terms relating to the spinal cord and some other part or organ, as spinibulbar, spinicerebellar, spinimuscular, spiniperipheral, etc.
