单词 spool
释义

spooln.1

Brit. /spuːl/, U.S. /spul/
Forms: α. Middle English–1600s spole, 1600s spoole, spowle, 1600s– spool. β. northern and ScottishMiddle English– spule (1500s spwle). γ. 1700s–1800s spole (1700s spoal). δ. 1500s spoyle, 1700s–1800s dialect spoil.
Etymology: < Old Northern French espole (13th cent.) or the source of this, Middle Dutch *spole, spoele, spuele (Dutch spoel), Middle Low German and Low German spôle (hence Danish and Swedish spole), Old High German spuola (feminine) (German spule) and spuolo, spuol (masculine) (obsolete or dialect German spul). In Romanic now represented by French espoule, French espolin, Spanish espolin, Italian spola, spuola. The appearance of spole beside spool in the 18th cent. seems to indicate a second adoption of the word from some Continental source.
