Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by compounding. Or (ii) a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: square adj., dinkum n., fair dinkum adv.; fair dinkum adv., fair and square adv.
Etymology: Either (i) < square adj. (compare square adj. 9) + dinkum n., after fair dinkum adv., or (ii) an alteration of fair dinkum adv., after fair and square adv.
Australian and New Zealand colloquial. Now rare.

1. In a decisive, thoroughgoing, or open and legitimate manner; with full and honest effort or outright success; fair and square. Also as a general intensifier: very, exceptionally, completely. Cf. fair dinkum adv. 1.
