Etymology: < medieval Latin squinancia, -antia, apparently formed by confusion of Greek συνάγχη and κυνάγχη cynanche n., both denoting diseases of the throat. Hence also French esquinancie, †squinancie, -tie (Middle Dutch squinancie, -tie), Italian squinanzia, Spanish esquinancia, Portuguese esquinencia.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈsquinancy.
Now rare.
