单词 stacte
释义

stacten.

Brit. /ˈstaktiː/, U.S. /ˈstækti/
Forms: Also Middle English stacten, 1600s stact, 1700s stackten.
Etymology: < Latin stactē, < Greek στακτή feminine of στακτός distilling in drops, < σταγ-, στάζειν to drop. The form stacten represents the accusative, treated in medieval Latin as indeclinable. (So German stacten.)
1. A fragrant spice referred to by ancient writers; properly, the finest kind of myrrh, the exudation of the living tree (Pliny N.H. xii. xxxv), but the name was also applied to a mixture of storax with fat.In the Bible used (after the Septuagint and Vulgate) as the translation of Hebrew nāṭāph, one of the ingredients of the incense prescribed for the Tabernacle worship, variously conjectured to be opobalsamum, myrrh, storax, or tragacanth.
