释义

squamoso-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. Some degree of stress is always maintained on the second syllable. If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. squamoso-temporal Brit. /skwəˌməʊsəʊˈtɛmp(ə)rəl/, U.S. /skwəˌmoʊsoʊˈtɛmp(ə)rəl/, /skwəˌmoʊzoʊˈtɛmp(ə)rəl/.
used as combining form of squamose adj., in the sense ‘squamous and ——’, as squamoso-dentated, squamoso-imbricated, squamoso-radiate; or in terms of Anatomy relating to the squamous bones, as squamoso-maxillary, squamoso-parietal, squamoso-temporal, squamoso-zygomatic.
