Etymology: < scientific Latin status nervosus (1778 or earlier) < classical Latin status status n. + nervōsus nervous adj.
Medicine (now rare or disused).
An abnormal condition of the nervous system; esp. the state of nervous and mental irritability occurring in typhus and certain other fevers.
