Etymology: Alteration of sticados, variant of stechados n., with omission of the final -s (apparently reinterpreted as the English plural ending).In α. forms apparently with excrescent v . The form stick-a-door at β. forms was apparently remodelled after stick v.1 and door n.
Now chiefly historical.
A perennial species of lavender, Lavandula stoechas (family Lamiaceae), native to the Mediterranean, previously cultivated as a medicinal herb but now commonly grown in gardens for its spikes of pink-purple flowers. Also called cassidony, French lavender, stechados, stoechas.
