Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin additāmentum.
Etymology: < classical Latin additāmentum additional factor or amount, something added, additional element < addit- , past participial stem of addere add v. + -āmentum (in e.g. armāmentum armament n.; compare -ment suffix). Compare (rare) Old French additement projection on a bone or cartilage (1314), Middle French additament mammillaire (16th cent.).In form additiment apparently after -i- connective.
Now chiefly archaic or literary.
A thing that has been added or added on to something else; an addition.
